I’m going to start reading a series of Assorted Letters of St. Jerome, because I need to cheer up and St. Jerome always makes me laugh. Curmudgeons are very funny when they’re not arguing with you. 🙂
I’m starting with Letter 13, in which we learn that when it came to bad tempers, the acorn didn’t fall far from the tree. It’s AD 374, and his mother’s sister, Castorina, has been fighting with St. Jerome for more than a year!
Probably St. Jerome had plenty of strong women in his family, which is probably why he had no problem being friends with other strong women, like St. Paula and her brood. It was the strong women in his own family he wasn’t great friends with….
