I’ve been experimenting lately with mp3 length. I like longer files myself, but it’s a lot quicker to download and start listening to a short file. Also, I didn’t realize the difficulties that some mp3 players have with navigating inside files. So I thought I’d try keeping the length down — ten to twenty minutes — and see if that worked better for people.
In the short story “500 Carats”, meet a brilliant detective who works for DeBeers! There’s been an impossible robbery of a huge newly discovered diamond. Who did it and how?
I’ll post the second part tomorrow, along with the latest chapter of Mind Twister. (That should give you time to solve the mystery!)
In the final story of her first story collection, Constance Dunlap, Constance yet again meets a criminal young man in distress. (You know, Constance, we’re really starting to wonder about your taste in men!)
Next week, I’ll start reading some non-series mystery stories which are in the public domain. I’ve found some interesting stuff, and I hope you’ll like it.
This story, btw, was brought to you by Bookery Fantasy, which sells all kinds of stuff — from DVDs, gaming supplies and comics to the odd copy of Argosy All-Story Weekly.
Murray Leinster (real name: William F. Jenkins) is best known today for his interesting and well-crafted science fiction. His story “First Contact” is still widely anthologized (and is genuinely funny as well as thought-provoking). But he also wrote Westerns, mystery, adventure, and every other kind of pulp story.
For the August 5, 1922 issue of Argosy All-Story Weekly, Leinster wrote a little romance story. About married people in love with their spouses. And it actually talks about work and grownup stuff! Enjoy.
