I’m posting more links to this week’s bonus book, The Seven Words on the Cross. This chapter on “darkness covered the earth” is pretty interesting, and I wish I knew more about Bellarmine’s sources or the current state of scholarship on them. But I don’t. So you probably want to hold back a little; there are other cool ways the sun could be darkened, and I’m a bit nervous about absolute declarations on the celestial mechanics of a miracle. OTOH, if you were omnipotent and wanted to make a point, why not do something really showy?

Book 2, Chapter 1A: “Darkness covered the whole earth, and the sun was darkened.”

9:54.
